As plant cell have a unique property to regenerate from a single micro -portion of itself and property is called as totipotency. Plant tissue culture involves the culture of all types of plant cells, tissues and organs under aseptic conditions. There are many useful compounds that can be obtained from plant products and that too have become a field of special interest in various Industrial applications. However, however industries are more concerned about production of pharmaceutical and other secondary compounds obtained from plants such as essential oils, food flavourings and colourings agents that has wide application in preparation of food, ice cream and confectionary industries.

Micro-Propagation assures more no. of disease free plant production with more than 80% of acclimatization. Each year the number of such companies and tissue cultured products is increasing. Near about 10 export-oriented units for the mass propagation of tissue cultured plantlets of flowering and ornamental plants have been licensed. Tissue culture through micro-propagation has an added advantage over vegetative propagation that it can be done in any season. It too is less time taking.
