Dandruff is dead skin cells shedding from the scalp. Dandruff is also called as seborrhoea. Generally, dandruff is said to occur in areas where, oil production (sebum) is high. The most affected areas by dandruff include scalp, ears, face and skin folds. The cause of dandruff is not known exactly, but yeast, Malassezia furfur is involved, which resides on the skin. Dandruff appears in different forms on the surface of the skin based on its location. Dandruff appears as red scaly patches in folding of the skin or greasy scales on eyebrows.

Dandruff does not lead to permanent hair loss. It causes itching and often it can cause self esteem problems. People with weak immune system show more dandruff, however, dandruff is caused to people who are even completely healthy. 5% of the people were affected by dandruff.

Dandruff treatment using lotions, creams containing cortisone and medicated shampoos. Antifungal creams can also be used to reduce the fungal microorganism on skin. Some creams or lotions may form a matt like appearance and cannot be easily removed after applying. So to avoid that, non steroid creams were used. Dandruff on eye lashes is hard to treat; hence the eye specialists suggest using baby shampoos or cotton swab.
